Description: |
Meissen plate decorated with two children in the costume of the day. To the bottom left of the scene is the signature Richter inv. Adrian Ludwig Richter was a painter, illustrator and teacher at the Meissen school of painting from 1828-1835. To the bottom right of the scene are the initials CH. Carl Ernst Hummel was a painter at the Meissen factory c.1855 specialising in landscapes and figures. It is very unusual for the Meissen factory to allow its artists to sign their work. It is not so unusual to credit the original artist, although this would normally have been done on the reverse of the plate. |
