Meissen owl from a series of 75 mainly Meissen animals created as an elaborate table decoration by Max Esser between 1920 and 1928 and entitled Reineke Fuchs. Reineke Fuchs was a series of loosely connected fables which became popular in mediaeval Europe and usually concerned the struggle between the sly fox Reynard and the powerful wolf Isegrim.
